But hopefully, just hopefully, the Lamount Valley Herd will make it out on top. With the wolves who claimed their Lead Stallion still salivating at their heels, and the promise of Bachelor Stallions looking to take the herd for themselves, it's no doubt that this will be one of the worst winters to come. So, with the young Deputy Mare now promoted to Lead Mare, the herd must either reach their valley, or find a different way to survive the winter. The idea of surviving through the winter seemed impossible, but the mares just couldn't accept the death sentence they'd be giving their foals if they gave up. The tragedy of the past week struck the herd to the core, shattering what remained of their hope and sapping them of their energy. They had hope she would survive, as she had made it through the ordeal alive, but unfortunately her age and injuries were just too much and she succumbed to the Winter a few days after. Unfortunately, none of them could have seen it coming when the ground beneath her hooves gave way and she was swept down the mountain. Knowing the herd had to start it's trek to their Valley Home for the winter, the Lead Mare, a sturdy and dependable creature, began to lead them into the mountains. Food that was abundant disappeared in a matter of days, though it felt more like hours. Shortly after losing their Lead Stallion the snows fell, and the temperatures dropped. Now, the LV Herd are a bunch of hardy horses, more so than your average wild horse, however, none of them were prepared for what was to come. Unfortunately, since he was weakening he wasn't able to fend of the pack of starving wolves who were determined to make a meal out of him. He was an aged beast, but a reliable stallion even in his age. First came the death of their Lead Stallion. Unfortunately it seemed the fates had different plans and decided to roll the dice on whether or not the Lamount Valley Herd would see the end of Winter or not. This year was supposed to be no different for them. At the beginning of each winter, they would leave their forest home, daring to venture into the snow slick mountains, knowing that hidden within it's wintery abys is an oasis of refuge. For the Lamount Valley Herd, winters have never been easy, but they werne't necessarily impossible either.
